What Is Blepharoplasty?
As we age, our eyelids stretch, and the muscles that support them begin to weaken. This results in excess fat gathering above or below the eyelids, resulting in drooping eyelids or bags under the eyes. In some cases, this can impair a person's vision, particularly their peripheral vision. When this happens, we suggest that our vision patients come into our state-of-the-art office for a blepharoplasty consultation. This eyelid surgery in Napa, CA removes that excess skin and tightens the remaining skin for improved vision and a better appearance. Signs you may want to schedule a consultation with one of the board-certified eye surgeons at Eye Specialists of Napa Valley, include baggy or droopy upper eyelids (ptosis), excess skin on the upper eyelids that make it difficult to see, or excess skin on the lower eyelids.

Who Is A Candidate For A Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a procedure that can benefit both men and women. Ideal candidates for an eye lift treatment are frustrated with excess, hanging skin and folds on the top eyelid, impaired peripheral vision, or bulging skin below the bottom eyelid. These conditions can cause functional problems that can hinder everyday activities. An eyelid or underye lift is an effective way to protect and improve your vision and reduce the appearance of excess skin around the eyes. If you have hanging skin that folds over on the upper eyelid or bulges and puffiness under the eyes, blepharoplasty can fix this to give you a younger appearance while reducing the risk of vision impairment.
How Does Blepharoplasty Work?
This outpatient eyelid surgery will begin by injecting a numbing medication into your eyelids to help you relax and feel comfortable. From there, one of our ophthalmologists will begin by making an incision in the natural crease of your upper eyelid. He or she will remove some excess skin, muscle, and fat, then close the incision. This procedure typically takes about an hour, after which you can return home to rest and recover. After your surgery, you may experience watery eyes, blurred vision, light sensitivity, and swelling. This is normal and should not last more than a few days. You may find relief by using an ice pack every hour for about 10 minutes following your surgery, and once every 4 - 5 hours the day after your surgery. It is important to gently clean your eyelids and use the ointment we prescribe you to promote healthy healing, as well as avoiding strenuous activities. We will schedule follow-up visits as necessary.
What To Expect After A Blepharoplasty
Eyelid procedures can take up to two hours, depending on whether one or both eyes are treated. After the procedure, you should plan a few days to rest and avoid strenuous activities. It is normal to experience blurry vision immediately following the procedure. Your ophthalmologist may prescribe artificial tear drops to prevent the treated eye from becoming dry. Ice packs can assist in reducing swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions to aid in an optimal recovery with ideal results. In most cases, patients fully recover from blepharoplasty procedures in a month.
Will the shape of my eye be affected by a blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty procedures are not designed to change the shape of the eye. Our team will discuss in detail what you can expect from this procedure during your consultation.
Is blepharoplasty covered by insurance?

"Dr Bosetti is the best eye doctor!! He and his staff are very professional and helpful. He is observant and funny and friendly, and just a great listener and all-around guy. I am so grateful to have him looking out for my vision. (hah! get it?) Seriously, though--I recommend him highly. He always does what is best for me in terms of treatment options for my eyes, and is careful to explain to me all the pros and cons of different methods, so I can make an informed decision."- Anonymous / Vitals / Nov 15, 2012
"Dr Kung recently preformed cataract surgery on my eyes I can't thank him enough for his expertise and bed side manner. You will not find a more concerning and caring doctor. He made the procedure effortless."- D.M. / Google / Oct 30, 2023
"I’ve been going to Eye Specialists for somewhere around ten-twelve years. I have found the the reception to be efficiently professional. Appointment reminders are sent ahead of time both by post card and by phone call. Cancellations are accepted graciously and in this time I’ve never felt the need to complain about anything save once ... I had a prescription either mis-read or mis-ground by their optical company. After rechecking my eyes, the prescription was resent and the reground glasses were returned ... with, of course, no additional charge. The waiting room is large, their are 16 to 20 lobby type cushioned chairs. Sometimes the waiting room is full; sometimes nearly empty. Depends on timing.I noticed people in the thread complaining about multi-scheduling of appointments. ALL medical offices do that. I’ve rarely waited longer than ten minutes to see the optometrist to get my prescription checked; and once done, rarely more than ten minutes for my appointment with the ophthalmologist. I always bring a book, but then, I always take a book everywhere.Dr. Vu and Dr. Jamison are my optometrist and ophthalmologist and each have always answered all my questions to the level of detail I desired (I have some grounding in science) and have been courteous about doing so.When getting fitted for my glasses, the technician fitting and adjusting has been spot on ... and when I’ve come in for a screw replacement for an errant temple screw, they’ve assisted with a smile and cleaned those nose pads as well.So ... for me ... five stars."- R.B. / Yelp / Jun 15, 2017
